Sensing Presence

An Atmospheric Portrait of the Port of Valencia

Sensing Presence is a participatory installation that reimagines telepresence through non-visual means. Inspired by iTeam’s research on digital twin technologies at the Port of Valencia, it asks: what might a digital twin become if it were not built for efficiency, supervision, or profit?

Live sensor data is interwoven with artist-collected sound recordings from hydrophones, geophones, and microphones placed across the port. These fragments merge with a custom AI model trained on historical records, producing speculative futures of the port’s ambient states.

Visitors are invited to slow down, sit, listen, and feel the port’s presence through underwater acoustics, surface vibrations, and wind. The installation frames the port not as an optimized site of trade, but as an ecological and atmospheric body—an experiment in post-utilitarian telepresence that is ambient, hybrid, and open to uncertainty.
